Jinka – March 07, 2025 (NIPN/EPHI) - Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), Dr. Getachew Tollera, expressed readiness to technically support the working endeavors of the South Ethiopia Region Public Health Institute (SERPHI).
Dr. Getachew said during a working visit by EPHI’s leadership team he led yesterday that EPHI is duty bound to provide technical support to the newly established Public Health Institute of the South region. “We are ready to support your efforts in addressing your gaps. The resources and training supports provided by our teams reflect our commitment to standing by your side in your endeavors,” he said.
The Deputy Director General stated this after handing over two laptop computers and Wi-Fi mobile apparatus to the SERPHI. He said that the donation and the knowledge transfer training provided by the Nutrition, Environmental Health, and Non-communicable Disease Research Directorate of EPHI would continue. “The Nutrition, Environmental Health, and Non-Communicable Diseases Research and the National Data Management Center have taken the initiative to work in collaboration with you. This is a good start. We will strengthen our joint efforts to overcome the challenges in the health sector.”

Dr. Getachew said the SERPHI should take the initiative to learn from other Public Health Institutes with extensive experience. “The Public Health Institutes in Amhara and Tigray regions have valuable experience in the sector. You will need to make an experience-sharing visit to these regions. EPHI is ready to support this initiative by providing the necessary financial assistance.” He also stated that further discussions would take place at the leadership level between EPHI and SERPHI soon.
Director General of the SERPHI, Mr. Agune Ashole appreciated the initiative taken by the Federal Public Health Institute to support his institute. “As an institute, we are a newly established one. We need a big support from the EPHI and regional PHIs. It is a heart-warming initiative to receive encouragement. We expect more collaboration from you. Please support us in our efforts to become stronger,” Agune said.
Director of Nutrition, Environmental Health, and Non-Communicable Diseases Research Directorate, Dr. Masresha Tessema, affirmed that support for SERPHI would continue. “It is our responsibility to assist within our capacity. What we have offered is not the final step. We will continue to provide technical and resource support. We believe the laptops will help young data experts enhance SERPHI’s research efforts,” Dr. Masresha said.

Coordinator of the National Information Platform for Nutrition (NIPN-Ethiopia), Dr. Aregash Samuel said that the knowledge transfer training and laptop donation provided by NIPN-Ethiopia to the SERPHI would encourage the newly established Public Health Institute to become stronger. “We will do our level best to provide more resource and knowledge transfer supports,” she said.
