ADDIS ABABA – October 30, 2025 (EPHI/NIPN) - The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research Steering Committee (MER-SC) had its first quarterly meeting from 27-28, October 2025, in Bishoftu Town, 45 kms from the capital, Addis Ababa.
The meeting was opened last Tuesday by the National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN-Ethiopia) Coordinator and lead researcher at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), Dr. Aregash Samuel, who stated that participants could draw valuable lessons and exchange insightful ideas regarding quarterly performances of various multi-sectoral offices under governmental ministries. According to Dr. Aregash, the meeting serves as an important knowledge-sharing platform for all participants.
The first quarterly MER-SC meeting for this current Ethiopian fiscal year, 2018, brought together Nutrition focal persons from the Federal Food and Nutrition Strategy (FNS) implementing Ministries, multi-sectoral offices, research institutions from Regional Public Health Institutes, and Universities.
During the meeting eight multi-sectoral offices presented the first quarter performances related to the food and nutrition strategy (FNS), which were reviewed and discussed by the participants. Senior researchers, instructors, and team leads were involved in identifying challenges, exchanging ideas on the achievements, and finally forwarding suggestions, views, and recommendations.
Dr. Netsanet Worku, a researcher and faculty staff member at the Institute of Public Health, College of Medicine and Health Science, University of Gondar, voluntarily took the initiative to present research findings on Grass pea.
The MER-SC quarterly meeting regularly hears performance reports presented by multi-sectoral offices of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI), Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA), Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), EPHI, and Ethiopian Food, Beverage, and Development Research Center (EFBDRC).
EPHI organizes the regular MER-SC quarterly meetings with the major objective of monitoring and evaluating food and nutrition strategy implementation. (EPHI/NIPN)
