Coordinator Portrays General Activities of NIPN-Ethiopia at International Interactive Event

ADDIS ABABA – October 04, 2024 (NIPN) - NIPN-Ethiopia restated its commitment at an international interactive event to intensify efforts in producing and providing evidence-based analysis, with the primary goal of informing national policymakers and program planners, thereby supporting their decisions to improve nutrition.

Dr. Aregash Samuel, Coordinator with NIPN-Ethiopia, briefed participants at a Workshop on Quality and Food Safety in Dakar, Senegal, about initiatives taken by NIPN-Ethiopia to convey research findings through clear communication and actionable messages.

She raised the collaborative efforts being made by the Ministry of Health, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, and NIPN-Ethiopia to avert stunting through the expansion of an initiative called the Seqota Declaration. Dr. Aregash remarked that the Seqota Declaration was the biggest initiative aimed at reducing stunting to zero by 20230 with close support by the Ethiopian government and donors.

Dr. Aregash has portrayed through her presentation about the core activities of NIPN-Ethiopia in accomplishing activities on policy question formulation based on stakeholder priorities, analysis of existing evidence-based data and communication of the findings, emphasizing the impact of informing policies with accurate and relevant data.

The Coordinator stated in a message forwarded to the communication section of NIPN-Ethiopia that the Dakar, Senegal workshop served as an advantageous interaction event for her to reflect the endeavors being put forth by NIPN-Ethiopia to enhance evidence-based nutrition governance in Ethiopia with close support from partners and donors.

Dr Aregash has seized the opportunity to express her appreciation to the EU, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (which hosts the NIPN-Ethiopia), and others for the operational and technical supports they are providing for NIPN-Ethiopia.

The Quality and Food Safety Workshop, which was Organized by African Transformative Agriculture Initiative (ATAI)-funded researchers and economists with the support of ATAI and Interdisciplinary Policy-Oriented Research on Africa (IPORA) and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in Dakar, Senegal, was held with the objectives of showcasing groundbreaking research, promoting evidence application, and fostering strong connections between policy makers, researchers, implementers and donors.

The workshop, conducted from October 2-3, 2024, was reportedly attended by 20 participants researchers, members of academia, and nutritionists drawn from various renowned universities, research institutes, Global NIPN member countries, WFP, and others. (NIPN)
